the other rant about movie trailers

I actually didn't realize until now that I have two separate rants about the same thing. I'm just that damn opinionated ;-)

Has this ever happened to you? You watch a movie trailer and say "Hey, this movie looks ok but this music they're playing kicks ass, I gotta find out what song that is." So, you watch the movie, and the song isn't in the movie anywhere, not even during the credits. Then you say "Well, maybe it's on the soundtrack." So you listen to the soundtrack and the song isn't on the soundtrack anywhere either!

This has happened to me several times and it's really getting annoying. Three examples I can think of off the top of my head are The Beach, The Matrix, and Ever After. During the trailer for The Beach, starring Leonardo Di Caprio, they play the song Touched by Vast. The song isn't in the movie nor is it on the soundtrack. Same with the Matrix and the song the Eyes of Truth by Enigma; same with Ever After and the song the Mummer's Dance by Loreena McKennitt.

Why do they do this? Are the songs on the soundtrack not good enough for the trailer? Why not put these songs on the soundtrack or in the movie for that matter? I just don't see the point of having songs in the trailer that aren't in the movie or on the soundtrack. They have to pay more royalties in the end don't they? Or do they do this just to piss me off?? I found one website that helps me in my search to find the hidden information: http://www.soundtrack.net/trailers/
So next time if you get caught in that annoying music trap, you can check them out, they might be able to help you.
