    the rant about racism

I have to admit that I am a prejudiced person. I am prejudiced against all racists.

I actually despise racism. I personally feel that treating a person poorly on the basis of their skin colour is horrible. To me it as if they are judging a dog's worth by the colour of it's fur. It's stupid, they are all the same colour underneath, red and white, and so are we. There are so many times that I run into people who say "Now, I'm not a racist but...". It infuriates me. Aside from racists, I can't say that I really hate any group or minority. I don't hate people whose religion is different from mine, I don't hate minorities or people who come from other countries, I don't hate people who look different from me or have different opinions than me, and most importantly I try not to. In a previous rant I went on about my hatred of proselytization. I would like to make it clear that I actually don't hate the people who practice it, I hate the act itself. I hate things that groups do, I try not to hate the groups.

Now, one thing I can and do hate is individuals. I can and do hate individuals of different races from my own and different religions, different social standing, etc. This hatred extends to individuals, not to their race. For example: I hate a co-worker named Harold. He is an extremely obese man and lives a lifestyle that many may call "slum." He smells badly, takes very poor care of himself, lives in practical squalor, and never gets any excercise. I do not hate all poor people or fat people, I hate him. I also hate Lou Bega. He is a black singer who had that one hit "Mambo Number 5." I hate his lyrics, I hate his music, I hate his mysogynistic attitude, I don't hate all black men because not all black men are like that. To tell you the truth when I am trying to give a description of what someone looks like to someone else I try not to use racial identifying words. The only reason I did so above was just to illustrate an example. Another example would be if I were talking about actress Zhang Ziyi I would normally say something like "Oh, she's that young girl from Crouching-Tiger, Hidden-Dragon, the really cute one with the long hair, and she was in Hero and Rush Hour 2 and I think she was in House of Flying Daggers...." I don't know if it was the way I was brought up that made me this way but it really bothers me when people make racial, ethnic, gender, or other kinds of jokes of that sort. I also can't stand slurs or negative words like "the N word". I can't stand the N word. Every time I hear it I cringe. I have no idea why, as I am not a black person, but I seriously can't stand that word. I don't care who is saying that word, it still really really bothers me. I hear it in movies and I cringe, I hear it in music, I cringe. Why use that word? I don't understand. So don't use that word. Don't make racial slurs, don't tell racist jokes, don't make lewd comments, don't refer to bindi's as "Paki Dots" or "push buttons". Don't refer to homosexuals, or asians, or mexicans, or women, or anybody else in derrogatory terms. It hurts and makes things worse. Hate perpetuates hate. In a world where everybody is afraid of everybody else, why try to make things worse? Try to educate yourself, try to look past stereotypes and see the individual underneath. It will be better for everybody in the long run.
