    The rant about proselytization

Do not under any circumstances come to my home, place of work, stop me on the street, or anywhere else and try to convert me to your religion. It won't work and it is offensive. I am not so weak willed that I will drop my current religion an immediately adopt yours after only talking to me for 10 seconds. I am against all forms of proselytization as I feel that it is a personal attack. To me, it as if you are saying to me "Your religion, whatever it is, is not good enough for you. I know what is best for you even though you are a perfect stranger. There is only one religion for everyone on the planet because everybody is the same and everybody has the same needs. You are a mindless sheep, resistance is futile, you will be assimilated."

The think that you refuse to understand is that everybody on the entire planet is different. Everybody has different wants, needs, opinions, and ways of looking at things; therefore there isn't one religion on the planet that is right for everybody. Some people need structure, some people need flexibility, some need a strong figurehead, others need a friendly circle of peers. It all comes down to the fact that everybody needs to find their own individual path that is right for them. Some people find it early in life, some find it much later, some feel that they don't need spiritual guidance at all and choose to be athiest. That doesn't change the fact that they still need to choose. By actively trying to convert people to your religion you are taking away their *right* to choose. What is the purpose of this robbery? Do you guys work on commission or something? Personally, I feel that a truly meaningful religion doesn't go out to recruit followers, it's followers find them.
So next time you come knocking on my door, I don't want to politely ask you to leave anymore, I'm tired of being nice to people trying to rob me of my choice. I'm just going to tell you that I was born a Witch, I'm happy being a Witch, I'm going to die a Witch, and to stay the fuck out of my religious affairs.

    Hey there Kari!
Wow, whomever tried to convert you must have been pushy and rude, you're really ticked off. Naturally, you already know where I am comming from...I don't think that..."advertising" one's faith is a bad thing, after all, we believe that Jesus is what people need. But people are free to accept or reject at their will. For example, I regularly attempt to share my faith with people all the time, even at work, at good ol' DQ. But I also try to let my actions speak fpr my faith, which is really more important in the long run. And if a person is uninterested, or hostile, I back off. What drives me nuts are the people who knock on doors and then shove on through, without regard for the other person's feelings or convienience. Or who act like the stereotypical Christian, which is not a pretty sight, even if it is well-earned in some respects. Hehe, there was this time, that this person started to do to me what it sounds like was done to you, and boy were they pushy--even after I had identified myself as a Christian! Yowzers! They sounded like an old-time preacher-man on speed. But seriously, don't let the ill-mannered ones get to you. Those of us who follow Christ are not as bad as all that. Usually.
