Ok so I was reading a while ago that milk companies wanted the soy milk manufacturers to change the name of their product from soy milk to soy "beverage". They claimed that it was because it wasn't really milk, because it doesn't come from a cow or something. So, they took them to court. And they won.

 

The reason that this pissed me off so much was that the whole case wasn't about false advertising or the improper use of the word "milk", it was about COMPETITION! The soy milk companies were gaining popularity and the milk companies saw them as competition so they thought that this would help curb the steady rise in soy milk consumption. Seriously, this lawsuit had absolutely nothing to do with mislabeling, it was solely about competition. You don't see the milk companies going after the goat milk producers now do you? Maybe it's because goat milk isn't popular. Oh sure you can say that it's because goat milk also comes from an animal so it can also be called milk. You can believe that as long as you like, you just go right ahead an live in happy denial land. I've just got two words for you people who think the milk companies were justified:

 

"Coconut Milk."
